Sunset over the sea: Costa Verde Wild

At dusk on any given day, Costa Verde becomes another world. There are no beach clubs, no music—nothing but the sound of waves lapping against the pebbles and, if you’re lucky, the low flight of a seagull against the changing sky. It’s the beach you choose when you really want to slow down.

The tour heads down the Costa Verde Promenade toward the river mouth, stops at the wild Costa Verde Beach, reaches the Foce Sangro Belvedere at the exact moment the river meets the Adriatic, and wraps up with dinner at Mare Blu Beach, a historic beach club from 1979 with its feet in the sand.

The uniqueness lies in the finale: the twilight light on this stretch of coast—facing east, with the sun setting behind the hills—lights up the sea in pastel hues, while the mouth of the Sangro transforms into a pink-orange mirror. It’s the moment when your phone switches to Hyperlapse mode and you fall silent for twenty minutes. The mood is that of a late summer evening, contemplative, with a glass of white wine in hand.

Perfect for couples, friends, or anyone looking for a slow, peaceful end to the day. Two and a half hours if you include dinner. Handy tip: leave at 5:00 p.m., bring beach sandals (there are pebbles), and book a table at Mare Blu for 8:30 p.m. during peak season—the ocean-view seats fill up fast.

Good to know

  • Towel + swimsuit under your clothes: the water at Costa Verde is always clean
  • Beach sandals: there are pebbles, so comfortable beach shoes are a must
  • For the perfect light: set your phone to Hyperlapse mode — the sea changes color in the twenty minutes before dark
  • Mare Blu Beach: dinner by reservation only — tables with ocean views fill up quickly in the summer

Best time to visit: May–September for warm evenings outdoors. In winter (January–February): spectacular low-angle light but very cold

How to get there: on foot
