The Morge Trabocco is the only trabocco in the Torino di Sangro area. It stands on a beautiful, sheltered beach recently designated as a naturist area, prized for its privacy and tranquility.

The etymology of the name Morge is disputed: it may derive from the Latin murex (moray eel), or, in reference to the nature of the beach characterized by large stones and pebbles, from a dialectal word meaning “rock” or “stone.”

The trabocco was built in the 1920s by D’Orazio Ginesio, who sold it in 1948 to Antonio Ferrante. However, this purchase proved tragic: in 1951, Ferrante’s son drowned after jumping into the water from a pole of the trabocco.

Since then, the structure was abandoned until its reconstruction in 2011, thanks to state funds and a proposal by then-Mayor Iezzi.

Today, the Trabocco Morge is one of the few trabocchi that retains its original function as a fishing machine. It is managed by the Lu Travocche Cultural and Recreational Association, which allows visitors to tour the site and organizes courses to learn the art of traditional fishing. Members can also fish independently at the facilities.

The trabocco is also a very picturesque subject for photography, ideal for capturing breathtaking sunsets and unforgettable sunrises, nestled as it is on a wild beach with white granite pebbles and large rocks emerging from the water.
