Piazza Martiri della Libertà — known locally as Piazza Lauretana for its closeness to the Madonna di Loreto sanctuary — is the civic and panoramic heart of the historic centre of Torino di Sangro. Set on Corso Lauretano, the street that runs along the upper part of the village and takes its name from the nearby Loreto sanctuary, it is the reference point of community life.

From here the gaze takes in a panorama typically Abruzzese and hidden from the classic coastal routes: the terracotta-tiled rooftops, the bulk of the parish church of San Salvatore in the foreground, and then the hills sloping gently down to the sea as far as Lido Le Morge. On the horizon stretches the Adriatic and, on clear days, the jagged profile of the Costa dei Trabocchi stands out clearly. It is one of the few spots in the old town from where you can sense the village’s double soul at once: a hill village inland, open to the sea to the east.

Throughout the year the square hosts many events that bring the village to life: the traditional Torinese Carnival with floats, music and entertainment for all ages; summer events with live music, food stalls and charity gatherings; the religious processions linked to the Loreto sanctuary and the San Salvatore parish. On these occasions the space turns into a true open-air stage, gathering residents and visitors alike.

More than a monumental square, it is an intimate widening of the street, perfect for a slow pause during the walk between the Church of Maria SS. di Loreto and Palazzo Priori. The quiet of the place makes it particularly loved at sunset, when the golden light kindles the rooftops of the historic centre and the sea turns to copper.

Beautiful village and beautiful sea. It's a shame about the loud music along the beach, which "remains throughout the day" and, in my opinion, greatly hinders relaxation. I thought I'd have a relaxing holiday, but it wasn't!

A beautiful little village perched on a steep hill overlooking the sea. Peaceful, cool, and with an old-world atmosphere.

The end of the Costa Verde promenade is full of rubbish, cigarettes, paper, masks, plastic bottles, abandoned truck tyres, fishing nets and clothes thrown everywhere, it looks like a Roma camp, if this is the way tourism is done, the administration should be ashamed for 1000 years
