At dawn on a summer day, before the sun gets too hot, we set off from Le Morge Beach. A quick dip—the water is cool, still pristine—and then we begin the climb. About 165 meters of elevation gain through broom, olive trees, and scenic turns, up to the heart of the town perched high above the sea.
The route crosses the Lungomare Morge to warm up, enters the pine forest where the real climb begins, emerges into the historic center of Torino di Sangro through the narrow alleys, and culminates at the Belvedere in Piazza Donato Iezzi, a terrace about 164 meters above sea level.
What makes this route unique is the changing landscape: in two and a half hours, you go from sea level to the heart of a medieval town, and the view shifts with every turn. The sea recedes beneath your feet, the cliffs become thin lines, and the tiled roofs appear like a promise. The pace is that of a slow ascent, best taken at a steady pace.
Suitable for regular walkers in good physical condition. Two and a half hours including stops. Practical tip: avoid the hottest hours of summer—start at 7:00 AM or 6:00 PM. Bring at least 1.5 liters of water per person (there are no water fountains on the ascent), hiking boots, and telescopic poles if you have knee issues. Final reward: bocconotto and coffee in the historic center.
